Democracy

It is becoming obvious from comments on my blog wherein articles have appeared about Harrogate that there is a general lack of knowledge about direct democracy. Those wanting ‘people power’, devolution of power; and referism are in fact hankering after direct democracy – or a form thereof.

Might I suggest that the following articles here and here are read – the first is quite long and contains many links which will need following.

I am not suggesting that the Swiss model is ‘cut ‘n pasted’ for this country – only that the principles are adopted.

    My interpretation of direct democracy is…we elect a representative to attend Parliament on our behalf but before he uses his travel warrent, jumps on the train and heads south; we grab him by the testicles and state…we are not going to hurt each other, are we?
